I delayed posting this as I searched for a title. I looked everywhere, but found none, and today is as good a day as any.

What matters an anniversary when you’re dead?
When time has ceased to govern,
And become only another direction
Of places you will not visit.
The earth traveled around the sun,
But you were not there.
A thousand sun rises,
And sunsets lighted not your face,
And the work that gave you meaning
Is done by others
If, at all, it’s done.
And all those that loved you
Love you still,
But carry about their business
As though nought were changed,
But sometimes pausing to talk shit
Or writing nonsense poems.
And your life,
Your death,
Made no difference to what mattered.
You just made me happy for a while,
And had your chance to be
One of a thousand billions that tried to do more.
I need no anniversary since
I love you everyday,
All of the time,
As though you’d never gone.
I want to let my happiness shout out
The memory of you.
I want to be the product,
Your lasting achievement,
But here I am, now,
A blithering wreck.

A beautiful love poem. Bittersweet. Very raw and honest.
