Back in December of 2019 just as we were first hearing of a new virus that you could get from eating bats in China, that obviously would never be a problem to us, the Schnark burst onto the internet amid a whirlwind of stillness with this introduction https://schnark.home.blog/2019/12/07/example-post/
I think it is time for the Schnark to be re-introduced.
A little time has past and much drivel has ensued, but the Schnark has tried to remain true to his avowed quest for truth with regard to the end of the world, dinghy cruising and other things. Each post, no matter how trifling or irrelevant has been carefully categorised for one of these subjects. We are, without doubt, considerably nearer the end of the world than when we began. I see the biggest shift as the breakdown in global cooperation. I observe that that has been universally ignored by all other reporters, but the Schnark calls it out, and maybe one day the advisors to our great men and women will either read my reports, or come to the same conclusion through their own limitless intelligence.
But the Schnark has moved on a little to an understanding of the end of the world, https://schnark.home.blog/2020/09/22/series-apocalypse/ that the expression is as vague as the term “world”. We might exchange the word “world” for the word “beauty” but that is also a vaguity. It really ceases to be a concern for the Schnark, as he is already seeing the process of destruction all around him. His freedoms are rapidly reduced, his environment is rapidly despoiled, and his nation is in clear decline and committed to a policy of self delusion. But I’ve started so I’ll finish. I’m still here and you are, if you’re reading this, still there. So despite my reducing interest in the subject, I will continue to report on it, and the progress that we, as a country, a continent, a race, are making in this path of self destruction.
And on the 23rd of this month [think was October or November 2023]I am going sailing, in my own wee boat, on my own home waters, perhaps the 1st time in a year or more, perhaps the 1st time since my journey home after being rescued and towed to Clacton by the RNLI in disgrace. https://schnark.home.blog/2022/09/04/crossing-the-estuary/
Finally, I apologise for my failure to organise this site in such a way that my very rare breed of reader can navigate to find the treasures I have laid down within. If any WordPress user has any tip, I’ll be most grateful.
I hope I’ll soon have something of interest to add. Bless you all, may you all live in peace and harmony with all who live around you, near and far, and may you enjoy love, be it God’s love, that of a good woman or man, or that of your dog or cat or teddy bear. Be sure that in this very moment I love you and care for you dearly and hope that you feel this and the warmth that comes with it.
Amen
Your Schnark.

Good to see you’re still writing. I look forward to reading more of your adventures.

Thanks Michael,
I might try to take advantage of your engineer’s brain.
What hope is there for an old travel alarm clock, about 5 1/2oz, that doesn’t like being fully wound. Is there a simple way of cleaning or lubricating to get a little more life out of it or do I just under wind and hope for the best?

Ah! is the winder suddenly slipping if you wind too far? If so, it could be a broken spring. Solution, sadly, the bin, or as you say just underwind a bit. A clock repairer would charge the earth, though it is a simple repair if you have the tools and access to a spares catalogue.
If not slipping, it could be, as you say, a simple cleaning thing. Drops of Iso propyl alcohol (cheap by the gallon off ebay) applied with a dropper or a fine brush to the bits you can see moving, might help clear any gumminess from old oil. Then similarly tiny drops of watch oil (again very cheap off ebay) applied with the sharp end of a pin to the pivots of those same moving parts. Also a blast from a can of air – the sort of thing computer guys use to blow dust from their devices, about a fiver off ebay, should dislodge anything that’s hampering the movement. Old travel alarms are charming things to have if you can keep them going.

Thanks,
It was working in the summer, but now when fully wound it keeps stopping.
I’ll go shopping on eBay tomorrow. Now sleep.
Good night,
S.

Ah hah, the air spray idea has me blow on it, and now it works fine, but I guess if I do that too often it’ll rust.
I’ll order a tin.
Thanks again!
